I have had sever asthma since I was born on March 11th, 1989. My asthma has gotten better but I am still only breathing about 50-60% of what normal lungs can. That is my good days. Growing up I had be be put on steroids in the winter when I would get worse for the first 7 yrs of my life and then on and off after. No one told me but the steroids messed with my calcium and later I fractured my foot just from walking.

Believe it or not I have been to see my doctor as I was concerned about some symptoms that I though were caused by asthma, but when my doctor examined my breathing she said that my lungs were clear and that it could have been a very mild form of asthma. I told her that I wanted go back to the gym and she said that I should do so and if I experience any tightness in my chest during exercise I should be back for further testing:why can I not have it done before going back to exercise,just in case?

@Heather4Forever polyps dont kill they can be removed easily surgically and u can easily breathe thru the nose. Its not even a big surgery ..go to a proper ENT doctor and discuss it with him...we see many people with polyps dialy...dont worry

@Imajenify no its a completely reversible disease. most ppl just need a cheap Csteroid like clenil to prevent the attacks.. if u have acute attack then medications are give a for a few days then one is supposed to continue with clenil inhaler which is cheap andu just have to keep another inhaler like ventolin with u...both r cheap u can take it whenever u have the problem. go to a doc

I have ignored my asthma hoping it will just go away. I suffer with the cough and its gets especially worse when I excersize and I am around smoke. I dont want to go to the doctor for fear I would need exspensive treatment. I dont smoke myself and my friends are real nice to me and dont smoke around me. Is this enough?

I am 12 ys old and I have really bad asma I haven't been able to smell since I was 6. The doctors say I have polups and can actually kill me if they get anybigger so I am on alot of prednizone and that is just to take for a few days.

I dont really talk about it, its just when I take my inhaler and my friends are like "omg!!!! Are you ok?!?!?!?!" Gets so annoying after a bit. And I wanted to be a nurse in the army, but I guess ild have to be a nurse in a hospital... I cant do sports because I have problems with my legs so its too painful to do sports, but I can swim just have to put inhaler on the side with the life guard.

swimming is also VERY good cause you learn to control your breathing more or something, plus the workout is good for you cause you use up all the muscles in your body and getting fit helps with asthma, but its hard at the start if your asthma is bad just keep it up :)

to help prevent asthma whilst running, doing sport etc, make sure you use the preventers properly, always carry a blue inhaler(sometimes one puff before can help), and breath calmly. Also for me i went out on my bike everyday and it slowly got a bit better.

asthma sucks! Igot diagnosed with asthma when i was just 10 months old! I almost died of asthma twice when i was around age 3! I had to take nebulisers until age 12 and now i am on steroid inhalers to help build up my lungs and i have a fast acting inhaler. gosh its a pain in the butt!

Thank you for this video! I was diagnosed with asthma by my PCP several years ago but because I've never understood it. If my breathing's ok, I don't take my meds/inhaler but the coughing is my biggest problem. I'll now be more vigilant about taking my meds consistently. Thank You!!

Thank you so much for this information for our nursing students! I was a swimmer who had "bronchitis" 3 times a year with only cough. I used to drink codeine cough medicine from the bottle before racing! This went on for over 15 years before a very sharp doctor diagnosed it in the late 1990's. The big problem with this type of asthma is the paramedics and ER staff may not recognize the seriousness of the airway problem in acute exacerbation.

Thank you for sharing this video. I've been suffering from this for months and we've finally found out it was asthma. I'm 35. Growing up my worst respitory issue was broncitis. The constant coughing is creating other problems and I have had several random moments when I cannot get air after a fit of coughing. Even the ER had no idea what was wrong with me. I see a specialist very soon which will be great because it's impossible to get a good nights rest like this.

I am an allergist and also a Cough-Variant Asthma sufferer, and yes, you only suffer from cough. This kind of asthma is also treated with antiasthma medication. Also this also can lead to more severe asthma if left untrated. The problem with this kind of asthma is that commonly overloked

Yeh, I had cronic coughing, and then I got fatigue BADLY and aching, and then I got bells palsy, and then the cough wouldnt go and I couldnt breathe, and I got uveitis and dam I was bad. Anyway I got a disease called sarcoidosis. I wouldnt wish it on anyone, and theres no cure. so if you cough too much , dont write it off! theres a lot of nasties out there.

I take DHEA-I have a truly horrible co-morbidity of Emphysema AND Asthma. I have learned how to rebound and keep a bit of salt handy in my purse. I have learned how to "breathe" properly, and I also make sure I have a Benadryl I can chew in an emegency. I am ill-but very active. Three times in different ocations I had three attacks at work (that was before I even thought of asthma and therefore without an inhaler). I was on my knees without even being able to breath. It felt as if an insect stung me in the back of the throat. Well, as it came it went. I figured it was a combination of dry mouth and the exposured to an A/C air vent in close range. I have asthma and seldom I get an serious attack, and serious that is because when I do get one, I panic, my heart rate goes faster than I can think, my breathing very restricted goes fast with a loud noise that can be heard about 60 feet, my whole body shakes and my legs get very weak. If you lived where I live, you'd be better off calling the number for Fire & Police than 911. I called a month ago, b/c my sister was visiting and needed help. I described the emergency, and the Operator asked "Are you SURE she has a diagnosis?" I restated myself, assured her it's an emergency and demanded that she send help. This woman had no business working for 911. If she'd done that to someone unfamiliar w/ emergency care, the results could have been disastrous.

Ventolin is safe if used only in need. It has cortizon so its not so safe to be used when unnecessary. It has a few side effects, like increased heart beats... How often do an asthmatic person need to use inhaler like Ventolin, I have a brother that seem to use it everyday with or without attack. Is this safe? Now on his last attack he coughed out so much blood that we thought we losing him , he was placed on Vitamin K to stop the bleeding. He lives in Africa and TB test shown negative. Actually, the textbook definition of asthma is "reversible wheezing". If you wheeze every time you get a cold, and this wheezing goes away when the cold does, then you have asthma. Even mild asthma is still asthma. If the wheezing bothers you, go see a doctor. All you might need is a fast-acting inhaler you can use when you have the occasional cold.

Basically, anything that can irritate your airways can trigger asthma. if you don't get the rescue inhaler, it could exacerbate or get better. i think it depends on the intensity of the asthma attack. like i had a minor one and it lasted for 2 days. i just got over it today. but if it's really bad i think it can lead to coma or death. if you get over it without medication, i think it is a possibility that your bronchial tubes (the tubes that connect to your lungs) can get inflamed and cause pneumonia or other bronchial infections. but im not a doctor so...

honestly i think its safe to say the top ten have it locked up for a loooooong long while... my top ten are Biggie,Jay-z,Eminem,Andre 3k,Lil Wayne,Wu Tang,Lupe,Luda,Pac,and T.I. in my opinion but hey everyone has there own opinion and nooooooo those def. are not in order but in that defense my number one goes to Biggie, then Pac. Thank-You, I have Asthma, and i hate it! I can't go jogging with my friends because of my asthma. And i'm a bit "Overweight". My mom told me that i should try something to help stop me from being overweight, we looked it up and she said i should try Yoga, so i searched it up. Now i think i'll give Yoga a try.

does anyone remember what it was like before inhalers? i remember that my mother would give me a really gross tasting syurp for asthma! and that did not seem to work very well. when i was about 5 or 6 the provental inhaler came out! that was the best thing ever!!!! i could do just about anything and if i started to wheeze one-2 puffs no more wheezing!!

I hate asthma i am going to get a few chest X-rays (Hate em')Then they are going to look to see how my lungs are doing in two weeks.The first few days i used a spacer.Then i used my inhaler regularly It really sucks having it. I hated the tube you had to breath into i was coughing alot and it was very low.I have a inhaler for use 15 mins before i exersize.Then i have a rescue (I Don't like that one for some reason)So i hope you don't get it and i hope you don't want it.Inhalers seem to help!!!!

Yeah, i've just gone 13, and i've had asthma all my life. Its horrible, when your suffering from an attack, it just feels like your underwater and there is a barrier stopping you from getting air, its just like your trying so hard to breath, but your only getting like 1/4 of a breath. Lauren- So many more children under ten years old are getting asthma now that there is so much more air pollution. I had bad allergies as a child and took antihistimines. I was fortunate for the asthma to hold off until I was forty. There are good and bad weeks. One medication that works well to help stop the attacks and keep your lungs open is Symbicort. As opposed to Advair, it is not a powder. But this should only be used when asthma is bad for weeks. You can and will get through this.

You have it right. I came down with it at 40 years old. When I get it, it usually lasts for a few days using my inhailer. But, with the weather so warm here, I just got over a two week battle with it. It is soooo scary and painful. I have trouble getting it in and out! Check out my "Danny Boy" video. My left lung was shut down, so I performed it with only my right lung. Take care.
