You've got to cross-train in many different systems. Actually, the father of mixed martial arts, if you will, was Bruce Lee. If you look at the way Bruce Lee trained, the way he fought, and many of the things he wrote, he said the perfect style was no style. You take a little something from everything. You take the good things from every different discipline, use what works, and you throw the rest away." Dana White

I wanted to do in boxing what Bruce Lee was able to do in the martial arts. Lee was an artist and, like him, I try to get beyond the fundamentals of my sport. I want my fights to be seen as plays. - Sugar Ray Leonard lol you said karate?
By: bolanboogie59. on 21 Mar 10, 01:50:30
It seems he learned it well. Joe Lewis once said, "I remember I fired at him three times in a row and he (Lee) couldn't touch my hand. And I thought, "Ha, I finally got him!" Then he went to that alpha state of consciousness, sort of self-hypnosis he did on himself and then asked me to try again, and then of course, he popped me every single time. I couldn't touch him. He was great with those little mind games." Youre thoughts?

JamesDemille: Dan inasanto had seen Bruce Spar with Joe and Chuck Norris and said he would neutralize everything they tried. His ability to close, trap and shut down any attack was amazing. Bruce was a street fighter, and they were tournament players. There is a definite difference between the two. I have always been more than happy to explain the differences to those who think that winning trophies and smashing heads is the same thing

"Therefore to be martial artist also means to be an artist of life. Since life is an ever going process, one should flow in this process and to discover, to actualize, and to expand oneself." - Bruce Lee

"I stressed again, I have not created or invented any kind of martial art. Jeet Kune Do is derived from what I have learned, plus my evaluation of it. Thus, my JKD is not confined by any kind of martial arts. On the contrary, I welcome those who like JKD to study it and improve it." - Bruce Lee
By: taijutsu1992. on 21 Mar 10, 01:22:14
agreed.......
By: rowanatkin. on 21 Mar 10, 00:51:56
snake, Lee never mastered a martial art is that so? He mastered JKD did he not? He trained harder than anyone, and smartly. He got Ed Parker and the whos who to sing his praises like no martial artist had done, even to this day. So what Lee did do, must have impressed immensely. He got everyone to say he was the best. So not bad a track record i would say.

bruce lee invented mma , well mma without rules but he is the inventor of mma. I would love to see what would have happened if he was still alive and if students from his school would compete in ufc
By: taijutsu1992. on 20 Mar 10, 23:44:09
yea, that's when lee knew that he lacked some physical aspects, and believed that too much of martial arts only focusing on spirtuality and few physical aspects....... back then to say, i think he only knew wing chun and he was studying some other arts as well like karate, but basically wing chun was his style back than

His fight with Wong Jack resulted in Lee winded. He he taken down Wong Jack and choked him out, I am sure Lee would not have been winded. Lee knew his skills then were not complete because Wong Jack was not that good of a fighter (a very small man like him). On second thought, I think if Bruce Lee had lived, his ego may have been enough to accept the challenge from Royce Gracie like Ron Van Clief. I think it would have been a demoralizing event and the myth would've been destroyed.
By: taijutsu1992. on 20 Mar 10, 23:39:25
that's alright, i dont care if people doesnt think he was a fighter, or whatever..... all it matters is what you believe but it has to be good reasons why...... and my intention is that good reasons.....
By: taijutsu1992. on 20 Mar 10, 23:37:14
how about other fights of him like when some guy called him out telling him not to open his own dojo for teaching other people chinese way of martial arts, it lasted 3 or 5 mins and bruce lee won, but very disappointed in the fight because he believed that it shouldn't last that long and that's when he started to evolved and took weight training, isometric, polymetric all these exercises for physical and spirtual, etc
By: taijutsu1992. on 20 Mar 10, 23:35:35
all i know is that Gene and Lee were very close, well in fact they both were in a role play of Green Hornet or something..... Lebell and Lee like many exchanged ideas of techniques, etc..... yea probably, have stuck with lebell but also would been intereseted in BJJ...
By: BloodCompton. on 20 Mar 10, 23:34:42
I am not denying he was not a great martial artist. I already stated my respect for the guy. My only contention is he was even close to being the best fighter ever.
By: BloodCompton. on 20 Mar 10, 23:33:34
High school fights are really not noteworthy.
By: taijutsu1992. on 20 Mar 10, 23:33:21
well, according to the interview, he said that he has to be the greatest martial artist and philosophier, ill send you the liink if you want....

There's a video series here on Gene Lebell (I think it's called Legends Interviews or something like that). On Video 5, LeBell talks about Lee for a few minutes. Lebell said that Lee stuck around his dojo for about a year. And so perhaps, had Lee not passed away, perhaps he would have stuck around LeBell and get his black belt like Chuck Norris.
By: taijutsu1992. on 20 Mar 10, 23:31:52
he got into trouble multiple times because of street fights when he was in hong kong when he was a teen or something..... that's one reason why his father sent him to usa, calfornia

Lyoto Machida called by joe rogan "Machida is the closet thing to Bruce Lee that we have in MMA today."
